Nelson Taxis

History

The Nelson City Taxi Society was established in 1962, and has matured into Nelson's largest taxi fleet with some 42 sedans, wagons, vans, dedicated Total Mobility vehicles and executive vehicles offering the most comprehensive range of transport services and facilities available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Membership

The Society includes a membership of 31 shareholders and 5 Directors, employing approximately 30 extra drivers and staff.

The Nelson City Taxi Society is a member of the New Zealand Taxi Federation and the only affiliated Approved Taxi Organisation (ATO) in the Nelson region. The responsibilities of an ATO assure safe, professional service, and effective procedures for managing, and rectifying any situation that does not meet the standards of service required. The Society plays an active role in the promotion of what the NZ Taxi Federation stands for, with a member currently on the Board of the NZTF as Small Centre Representative.

The Nelson City Taxi Society also participates in the promotion of Nelson as a ‘destination’ through membership, and a seat on the Board of the Nelson Convention Bureau.

Nelson City Taxis utilize the Raywood computerised GPS dispatch system and is a bureau of the Gold Band network based in Christchurch. The network offers comprehensive Communication facilities, advanced dispatching practise, improved safety, confidentiality for customers and drivers and 24 hour backup facilities via Christchurch.

Our entire fleet is equipped for simple processing of TaxiCharge, Credit card and Eftpos cards.

The Nelson City Taxi Society maintains a market share in excess of 70% of all taxi related services in the Nelson region with our computerised dispatch facility reporting over 15,500 bookings every month. With an established technological and driver training infrastructure backed by the largest fleet at all times, the Society is well placed to service current workloads and future growth.

Nelson City Taxis maintains the highest representation at the Nelson Airport, holding more operating contracts with the Nelson Airport Authority than all other passenger transport providers combined.

Our customers

Our ledger includes numerous customers requiring time critical services and deliveries including Nelson Marlborough Area Health and associated laboratories, New Zealand Post, Air NZ, School Support and various courier companies. When required, our ability to retrieve and report on all activity ensures our customers are well informed and satisfied with the personal service offered.

Our drivers

All Nelson City Taxi drivers are certified in accordance with Land Transport New Zealand requirements and many are NZQA qualified. The Society is a Tranzqual ITO certified Training and Assessment Workplace offering comprehensive NZQA and based training facilities.
